Ghana Army Captain Festus Yeboah Asuamah ('17)Ìýwill embark on a 250-kilometer cycling journey from Accra to Kumasi, dedicating the "Ride for Safety and Fitness 2025" to the memory of Akpene Adzo Ahadzie, a ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø architecture student tragically lost in a cycling accident.
The ride aims to raise awareness of cyclist safety and promote sustainable transportation in Ghana.
The journey, set for April 5th, 2025, will commence at 3:00 AM from Burma Camp and is expected to last 13-15 hours, including stops for hydration and medical checks. Captain Asuamah's initiative aligns with the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 11.2, focusing on safe and accessible transport.
He hopes to spark a nationwide conversation about integrating cycling into urban planning.
Akpene's final-year project, which focused on creating cycling-friendly infrastructure, further inspired Captain Asuamah's ride.
The late student's family has expressed full support for the initiative and will be present at the concluding event at ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø campus.
The ride will feature medical and security support, and Captain Asuamah is seeking sponsorships to cover logistical costs.
