Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso, former Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø), Kumasi has been appointed as Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Republic of India.
His appointment marks a significant step in Ghana’s diplomatic relations with one of its key international partners, and a recognition of Prof. Obiri-Danso’s decades-long service in academia, research, and leadership.
A seasoned microbiologist and academic leader, Prof. Obiri-Danso served as Vice-Chancellor of ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø from 2016 to 2020, during which he led several initiatives that enhanced the university’s global visibility, improved infrastructure, and strengthened industry-academia collaboration. Under his tenure, ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø earned international accolades and solidified its standing as one of Africa’s top science and technology institutions.
Before becoming Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Obiri-Danso held several strategic positions at ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø, including Provost of the College of Science, Dean of the Faculty of Biosciences, and Head of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Biology.
He also served for three years as the Dean of the International Programmes Office, where he played a pivotal role in expanding ºÚÁÏÍø¹Ù꿉۪s global academic partnerships and student mobility programmes.
Prof. Obiri-Danso’s appointment is expected to deepen Ghana–India relations, especially in areas such as education, science and technology, healthcare, trade, and cultural exchange. India remains a strategic partner to Ghana, particularly in fields like ICT, pharmaceuticals, scholarships, and technical cooperation.
