The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø) successfully defended their football crown at the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games 2025.
Facing off against the University of Cape Coast (UCC) at the Cape Coast Stadium, ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø emerged victorious in a penalty shootout after a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
UCC, despite playing with ten men after an early red card, took the lead with a penalty. However, ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø responded with resilience, equalizing the score and forcing the match into a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. In the end, ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø proved their mettle, edging out UCC 6-5 to secure their second consecutive GUSA football title.
Social media erupted with jubilation as ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø students and supporters celebrated the team's triumph. The university's continued dominance in university sports fueled a wave of pride and camaraderie among the ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø community.
The GUSA Games saw fierce competition across all disciplines. The University of Cape Coast led the overall medal table with 48 medals, including 18 gold.
The University of Ghana followed keen with 39 medals, while ºÚÁÏÍø¹ÙÍø secured a commendable 35. The University of Education-Winneba and the University of Development Studies rounded out the top five institutions.
